What product is best for outdoor applications?
  • We recommend using our Color Rite Acrylic/Latex Caulking:
    • Color Rite is paintable within one hour. Whereas Silicone caulks can never be painted.
    • Silicone Caulks are oil based and tend to bleed an oily residue which will attract dirt and grime over time.
  • Color Sil can be used on exterior applications on a case by case basis only. Please contact us at (405) 354-3644, toll free at (855) 822-2855 (US only), or email us at orders@colorriteinc.com for further details.
Can I use Color Rite, Inc. caulks/sealants on sidewalks, driveways, patios, or around my pool?
  • No. None of our products can be used on grade.
  • Color Rite Latex/Acrylic caulk is recommended most for exterior use, but Color Sil may be used in special cases only. When being applied externally, only use these products on vertical surfaces; around doors, windows, or siding.
What will remove the old caulk/sealant?
  • Latex/Acrylic : "Caulk Be Gone" from the DAP Corporation and/or lacquer thinner.
  • Silicone : No liquid will remove old silicone. It must be scraped away with a putty knife or razor blade.
What will remove the residual smear around the newly installed bead of caulk/sealant?
  • Color Rite : Immediately after tooling this problem can be removed with a clean damp cloth. After curing, lacquer thinner must be used. Using the Perfect Bead Tool helps alleviate this situation.
  • Poly-Sil/Color Sil : No liquid will remove it. After it cures the smear must be scraped away with a putty knife or razor blade. Using the Perfect Bead Tool with Mist helps alleviate this situation.
Which product is better to use around my bathtub or shower surround?
  • We do not recommend using any water-based acrylic or latex caulk in shower or tub areas.
  • We recommend using our 100% silicone Poly-Sil or Color Sil.
Which product is better to use on floor applications?
  • We recommend using Color Rite. The Color Rite acrylic/latex caulk has better adhesion. It is easier to apply, it is easier to cleanup, and it has better durability for foot traffic.
Will Color Rite / Color Sil adhere to my existing caulk?
  • Yes, as long as the existing caulk is not a silicone and/or crumbling and losing adhesion.
Are any of your caulks/sealants waterproof?
  • All three of our caulk/sealants are water resistant, but not waterproof.
Can I paint over any of the Color Rite, Inc. caulk/sealants?
  • Color Rite: Yes within one hour of installation.
  • Color Sil: No. Paint will not adhere to silicone caulks.
The color of the Color Rite acrylic caulk in the tube does not match the color I ordered. Why?
  • Color Rite is not its true color until after one hour of curing time. Keep in mind the packaging distorts the uncured color.
Why are there pin holes, small gaps, in the Color Rite bead I just installed?
  • These pinholes are called caulk blisters. These are created by the improper application of the caulk bead that encapsulates small air pockets which are not filled during the tooling procedure. As the caulk cures these blisters open up and are seen as small pin-sized holes. Tooling with the Perfect Bead Tool minimizes this problem.
Is Color Rite available in a sanded version?
  • Yes, in 10.5 oz cartridges only. Simply order using the grout manufacturer, color number and color name.
When applying masking tape along the sides of  agape, void, or seam how long should I wait to remove the tape?
  • We recommend you remove the masking tape immediately after tooling.
Is Color Rite, Inc. caulk/sealants freeze/thaw stable?
  • Color Rite: Color Rite acrylic caulk will cycle (freeze/thaw) 5 times before it deteriorates.
  • Poly-Sil/Color Sil: Yes, both Poly-Sil and Color Sil show no signs of deterioration when froze, even for extended periods of time. To extend the shelf life of silicones, we recommend freezing the product before and after use.
What is the cure time for Color Sil?
  • Color Sil will flash off within 30 minutes. We suggest you keep moisture away from it for 24 hours.
What is the difference between Poly-Sil and Color Sil?
  • Color Sil is a solid color silicone and Poly-Sil is colored utilizing minute acrylic granules.
What is the PH level of Mist?
  • Mist has a PH level of 10 (Neutral is 7 and water is 8 or 9).
